Heading to Basel this week? Don’t miss Brent Estabrook in action. Known for his vibrant oil paintings of stuffed animals, Estabrook will be live painting at the Maddox booth AM219 on Thursday and Friday.
He’s presenting 12 works from his “cRaZy stuFFed aniMAL” series, along with a whimsical piece from his “Quilt!” series titled “A Little Overwhelmed”—a semi-self-portrait capturing the chaos of creative overload. Other highlights include the festive “After Party,” the endearing “I LUV U,” and “Adventure Time,” the first “Quilt!” piece to appear at a fair.
Catch him painting live from 11 am to 2 pm both days, likely working on more from the “cRaZy stuFFed aniMAL” series—possibly a bear. Estabrook thrives on the energy of live painting, finding inspiration in the audience and enjoying conversations about their passions.
Though he holds a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Louisville (2014) and is licensed in California, Estabrook never practiced dentistry. Instead, he followed his heart into art after a major sale around graduation. He calls that leap of faith one of his best decisions—second only to marrying his wife, Tara.
His dental background shows in his art through his clean, organized approach. His studio setup mirrors a dental workspace, a detail you’ll notice at Art Miami.
What excites Estabrook most about Basel Miami is reconnecting with fellow creatives, hearing their stories, and discovering new art. He also relishes the culinary side—his wife books dinner for six each night, and they always end up inviting fascinating new friends they meet during the day. The fair’s art continually fuels his drive to create.
