For the first time, the 15 Percent Pledge hosted its third annual gala in Los Angeles, honoring Black excellence at Paramount Studios with a star-studded guest list. Founded by Creative Director and activist Aurora James, the initiative urges retailers to allocate 15% of their shelf space to Black-owned businesses. With over 28 retailers on board, nearly $14 billion in revenue has been redirected to these brands.
Major names like Nordstrom, Sephora, Vogue, and Bloomingdale’s have committed to the pledge, and the movement continues to grow. Fashion Bomb CEO Claire Sulmers turned heads in a regal Matopeda gown from Nigeria, mingling with fellow luminaries like Kelly Rowland, who stunned in a chocolate and gold Mohamed Benchellal creation, accessorized with a sleek bob, gold statement earrings, and lioness rings.
Tracee Ellis Ross embraced earthy tones in a Fear of Gold fur coat, cinched with a leather belt and paired with mocha Saint Laurent heels. Aurora James, the evening’s visionary, wore a Christopher John Rogers ensemble featuring a cream blouse adorned with a teal 3D flower and an avant-garde skirt, finished with teal strappy sandals and Bulgari jewels.
Jordyn Woods opted for a neutral Harbison.Studio dress with colorful buttons and black gloves, perfectly capturing the black-tie spirit. She shared selfies with Claire, rekindling their Paris Fashion Week bond. Emma Grede, Chairwoman of the 15 Percent Pledge and Co-founder of Good American, impressed in a black Aliette blazer dress with a dramatic 3D organza rose.
Model Ashley Graham flaunted her curves in a dazzling emerald green sequined and feathered gown with cutouts. Sabrina Idris exuded elegance in a Kwame Adusei maxi dress, pointed stilettos, and a chic black mini bag. Angela Rye shimmered in a futuristic gold Dolce & Gabbana look with a built-in corset, while Monique Rodriguez, CEO of Mielle Organics, lit up the night in a vibrant Christopher Rogers dress and a sparkling Judith Leiber clutch.
The 15 Percent Pledge plays a vital role in holding major retailers accountable for supporting African American brands, often marginalized by systemic racism. It’s about ensuring the companies we support reflect true inclusivity. To learn more or get involved, visit 15PercentPledge.org.
