With a powerful team behind it, the launch of ‘The New Stereotype (TNS): STORIES’ on Sunday, Nov. 12th in New York City was nothing short of extraordinary. Creators Marquelle Turner, Wendy Oduor, and Olushola Bashorun joined forces during the pandemic to craft a stunning tribute to over 50 Black men and women, captured in 26 fashion editorials across New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Spanning three years, the project celebrates the richness and pride of Black identity through fashion, photography, and film.
The result is a luxurious coffee table book filled with captivating visuals. Each CHAPTER tells a unique personal story, collectively illustrating the unity and strength of the Black community. The launch event featured a panel discussion moderated by Danielle Young, with notable guests like Celebrity Stylist Harrison Crite and Author Rob Hill, whose portraits were part of the exhibit. Behind a white curtain, guests discovered powerful imagery displayed on raw concrete walls, creating a striking contrast.
Eager attendees lined up to purchase their copies from Project Director Marquelle Turner, who exuded elegance in a custom light brown two-piece, black Kufi hat, and Balenciaga flats. Director of Photography Olushola Bashorun arrived in a Prada pinstripe suit and white sneakers, accompanied by his wife in a flowing silk maxi dress and gold sequin heels.
Fashion Bomb CEO Claire Sulmers came to support her friend Olushola, praising the artistry in every image. Creative Director Wendy Oduor turned heads in a red STAUD maxi dress, bold beaded earrings, and matching red stilettos and lipstick. Oduor later interviewed Sulmers, who wore a leather outfit with a graphic tee from the Fashion Bomb Daily shop and black leather flare pants. The evening was a vibrant celebration of the creative brilliance of Oduor, Bashorun, and Turner.
