Comme des Garçons had their male models don lace front cornrow wigs during the Fall 2020 runway show. For anyone familiar with proper lace wig application, the results were unintentionally comical. The wigs had hairlines beginning awkwardly in the middle of the forehead, visible and unsecured lace, and oddly styled baby hairs that curled in strange directions—creating an overall humorous effect.
The inspiration behind these looks remains a mystery, and it’s unclear what the CDG team aimed to achieve. One thing is certain: lace wigs demand precision, and when done poorly, they invite ridicule. In this case, the models might have looked better simply wearing their natural hair, which was still visible beneath the lace. There were no wig caps, and no reliable adhesives like Got2B or Ghost Bond were used.
What do you think? Models, next time, make sure your wig game is on point.
